Home of Green Girls in Africa and the Meaningful Travel Partnership

Serendipity Africa is a responsible tourism consultancy based in Cape Town. As a one-stop shop, we offer a diverse list of services to assist the tourism industry and potential visitors with all matters relating to responsible tourism experiences in Southern Africa. At a time when the earth’s resources are being tested on all levels, it is in our interest to learn how to work in partnership with the natural systems that support us and to recognise the financial value of a pristine environment. We must learn how to do it better, because :

‘In the end we will conserve only what we love, love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.’
Barber Dioum - Senegalese Philospher.

Trees for Tourism
Trees for Tourism is a new project creating a platform that will engage exclusively with the tourism industry. Offering an open channel for communication aimed at helping the industry to navigate the complicated issue of managing the business footprint. Tourism related businesses can purchase reforestation trees either as a once off gesture, or as an ongoing commitment. A pilot project is underway at Platbos Forest in the Overberg, Western Cape, where an initial donor has recently purchased 12,000 trees. At a cost of R95 each, these trees will address part of the carbon footprint of individual businesses and have a long-term environmental value extending vital forest boundaries.

Whether you are a tour operator, a wheels operator, an accommodation establishment or any other interlinked sector, the issue of working positively towards making South Africa the best responsible tourism destination in the world is in our hands. In an industry that is increasingly recognised for its global economic potential, and its ethics, this gives us a real opportunity to collaborate together for a better future, knowing exactly where and how we can make a difference.

Consulting
Serendipity Africa offers a comprehensive range of advisory services, as well as support to help tourism businesses to become ethical and responsible within the parameters of their baseline operations. By providing businesses with a structured framework to implement a balanced economic, environmental and social foundation, we have a chance to secure the long term sustainability of Africa’s tourism. If you are looking for information on where to go and how to find responsible tourism experiences in Africa, we have an active booking and enquiries platform to help you to make the right choices.

Marketing
Tourism businesses need good marketing support to tell people about what they do. We have worked with numerous organisations encouraging and motivating their participation in responsible tourism. Running a business with integrity means that tourism has a positive impact on the lives of people in local communities and on our increasingly fragile environments.

Media
If you would like to know more about what is going on in Southern Africa, and about the latest responsible tourism developments, have a look at our media page. As well as writing stories about projects around us, we can also make short promotional clips or films for tourism businesses to showcase their work. If you are looking for a media representative to write about a project or trying to find information on ethical destinations - we can help you to make an informed decision.

Projects
The Chipembere Rhino Foundation
Serendipity Africa is proud to be associated with The Chipembere Rhino Foundation. A privately run, non-profit organization committed to assisting in the protection and conservation of Africa’s rhino. This once highly endangered species, whose total population in the early 1950’s amounted to fewer than 500 animals across the country had largely recovered thanks to one of Africa’s most successful conservation efforts. But in recent years the poaching threat has escalated, and at the current rate more than 1 rhino is poached per day! Africa’s rhino population is facing an unprecedented threat that could take them back to the brink of extinction. Read more on www.chipembere.org
